The Presentation

In deciding how to do my genealogy presentation, I thought why not look for a site that hosted slide shows "in the cloud"?  This is after all a social media class... So, I found  http://www.zoho.com/  It took just a few seconds to create an account (uses existing Google, Yahoo, or Facebook accounts).  The slide show feature is basically a pared down version of PowerPoint, no transitions, or really fancy slides, but it suited my purposes... There are tons of other features that I don't have the time to look at now, but it seems like it is an office in the cloud, and its free...

The remodel

It is still not done, but my room is almost finished... Almost... I kicked the contractor & his stooges out of my room a couple weeks ago. So now I'm doing the finishing my self... I'll get done eventually (probably faster than the contractor though)

Spelling Errors & Spray Paint

Seems that someone doesn't know how to spell names... My dad informed me yesterday that my grandfather's name is Lewis, not Louis, which is how his named is spelled on the back of all the photos I have uploaded... Guess whoever put it on the photos didn't know and nobody bothered to correct them. Anyway, I have been changing his name on my photo tags so that all will be well, and the Internet can be restored to peace (because we all know that global Internet peace hinges on proper spelling and correct information, right?).

Ahh, contractors, the saga continues.  I got new marble countertops (to replace ugly Formica) as part of this remodel.  When they were installed the fabricator assured that they had been sealed and would be good for years... Yeah right, that's what they all say.  The contractor sat a cup down and the condensation off the cup was promptly sucked up by the marble, leaving a dark ring.  Luckily it evaporated and the counter is no worse for wear.  Backing up a bit, the stone was too short for the depth of my counter and I got a small ledge on top of the backsplash as a bonus. Woohoo, right? Wrong, the fabricator forgot that the edge would be exposed and did not finish the front of the ledge, so they had to come back out to smooth it.  When they came, we pointed out the lack of sealant on the marble.  They said, "You don't seal marble, it will make the marble turn yellow".  I'm not the trusting sort, so I turn to the trusty Internet (Wikipedia excluded) and lo and behold, marble is a very porous stone that MUST be sealed regularly or else it will stain and become spotty, because every liquid that comes in contact with the surface is absorbed.  So, here I was all ready to pick up the pieces and put my room back in order, but now I have to wait till I get my countertop sealed.  Which will take several days, since I ordered a sealant from a web based store and have to wait for it to be ground shipped (hazardous material, no expedited delivery available)...

This has been quite the semester, between a web class (I've learned that I'm not fond of web classes), a remodel (that we all knew would take longer than the 3 weeks promised), and having to remember to do genealogy (which I'm even less fond of than the web class). I'm not sure if anyone cares if he spelled his name "Lewis" or "Louis", and I don't really care either.  I never met him, or my grandmother, and I haven't been around any of either side of the family in over 6 years. I hated going to family reunions, and was thrilled when my parents said I didn't have to keep going.
